EP A COMPLIANCE ST A T US This manual d escribes the inst allation and operation of t he New Buc k Corporatio n, Model 80 wood heater. These heaters meet the U.S. Envi ronmental Pr otection Agency’s Emission li mits for wood heaters sold after July 1, 199 2.
ACHIEVING CA T AL YTIC LIGHT -OFF WHEN REFUELING During the refueling and r ekindling of a cool fire, or a fire that h as burned do wn to th e charcoal phase, operate the stove at a medium to high firing rate for about 15 minutes t o ensure that the catalyst reaches ap proximately 600 o F.
SECTION II MASONR Y INSER T INST ALLA TION INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS It is not necessary to direct c onnect this unit, but testing has shown t hat it is necessary for best performance in a poorly dra wing flue, oversized flue liner or a short chim ney.
POSSIBLE TO OLS NEEDED FOR INST ALLA TION If you decide to install your own stov e, there are several hand tools you may need to do the job. If you do not already have them, they are readily available at most hardwa re stores.
MOUNTING THE TRIM P ANELS After the unit is positioned, as shown in Figure 2, mark the mounting position of the trim panels as follows: 1. Set the side trim panels in place, flat a gainst the face of t he fireplace. Mark down the insi de edge of the trim panel to make a vertical refe rence line.
11. Pull th e unit back out of the fireplace and remov e the brass and top trim panel to facilitate the installation of the direct connect or positive connect. 12. Now, follow the installation procedures in the listed di rect or positive connect kit you are using and install the heater and connector kit in the fire place.
SECTION III RESIDENTIAL FREEST ANDING ROOM HEA TER INST ALLA TION INST ALLA TION PRECAUTION Extensive fiel d and labora tory testing has shown t hat catalyt ic stoves perform best as free standing st oves when vented into a mason ry chimney that include the following: 1.
MODEL 80 Minimum Clearances The New Buck Corporation Mod el 80 must be installed in compliance with the instruction s contained in this manual. Clearance from combustible walls and ceilings. (Using single wall chimney connector) The minimum lateral distance between an y part of the room heater and combustible wall is shown in Figures 6 and 7.
Preparing The Stove for Installation 1. Inspect the uni t for any obvious phy sical dam age. 2. Check the primary air draft cont rols to ensure that they slide freely. 3. Check the operatio n of the bypass damper control to ensure that it will open and clo se properly.
3. Now connect the stove to t he ceiling s upport box by using #24 ga. minim um blued or black steel chim ney pipe. (Do not use gal vanized pipe.) Co nnect each sec tion so the crim pled end f aces downward, and secure each section to each other using at least three (3 ) sheet m etal screws or rivets.
2. On ce the through-the-wall thimble codes are met , simply connect the chimney pipe to the wall pass- through conne ctor using #24 ga. minim um, blued or black ste el pipe as follows: (a) Maintain 1/4" rise per fo ot (horizontal lengt h) from t he appliance to the chimney.
ALTERNATIVES FOR WALL PROTECTION Example: The rear clea rance for th e Model 80 from page 12 is 26". (Measurement A.) This clearance may be reduced by 6 6% by usin g either of t he wall prot ection devi ces mentioned below.
3. Open the prim ary air draft s and damper bypass. 4. Plug the power cord into a 115 VAC outlet. 5. Place crumpled pieces of newspaper in th e stove. Light and close the door. Make sure that stove draws properly through th e primary drafts. 6. Check for smoke l eaks around the door.
SECTION IV WOOD HEA TER SAFETY Certain safety hazards are inherent in a ny wood heater inst allation. You should be awa re of these so that a safe and proper instal lation can be made.
SECTION V OPERATION This section of the manual is to help you get maxi mu m efficiency and maxim um smoke (particulate) reduction from your Model 80 heater. If you should exper ience any difficulty or hav e questions concerning your heater, contact your Model 80 dealer for assistance.

SECTION VI PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE / P AR TS REPLACEMENT Disassembly Inspection and Catalytic Replacement The catalysts in your stove are designed for many years of us e. If after several years of use, the efficien cy of the stove decrease s or if a nota ble amount of s moke is observ ed, the catalysts m ay need to be repl aced.
